On Thursday 3rd October, the Drama Company at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College delivered a performance of Sophocles’ timeless tragedy, Antigone. The play, originally written around 441 BC, explored the enduring conflict between individual conscience and the laws of the state, along with themes of family, duty, and rebellion.

Emma Clammer, Subject Leader of Drama and Theatre, said:
This year’s Drama Company brought an ancient story of resistance to life with a vibrant, thought-provoking performance. Their interpretation of the Greek play resonated with audiences, reminding us of the timeless importance of speaking truth to power and standing up for our beliefs. I am incredibly proud of the students’ commitment and creativity in this ambitious production. They supported each other and encouraged each other at each stage and the outcome was a moving interpretation of this old but still important story. The Drama Company was a new Q-extra this year and a chance for the A level Drama and Theatre students to stage a full scale production. They have inspired the next company to take on the prequel to Antigone for next year’s audience.

The student performers brought impressive energy and emotional depth to their roles, tackling the play’s complex characters and challenging themes. The production showcased the talent and dedication of the college’s drama department, offering audience members a thought-provoking and engaging theatrical experience.
The Barton Peveril Sixth Form College drama company continues to provide students with valuable opportunities to develop their performance skills and explore challenging theatrical works.
