Our History
The origins of Barton Peveril Sixth Form College date back to 1904 with the establishment of the Eastleigh Pupil Teachers’ Centre at the Eastleigh Railway Institute on the corner of Leigh Road and Market Street.
In 1909, the Centre relocated to the Wesleyan Hall behind the Methodist Church on the High Street and was later renamed Eastleigh Secondary School and Pupil Teachers’ Centre.
The Barton Peveril name
The Barton Peveril name first became associated with the school in 1918 when it moved to Barton Peveril House on Bishopstoke Road. It was then known as the County Secondary School, Barton Peveril, Eastleigh. Following a move to Desborough Road in 1932, it became Eastleigh County High School.
The school relocated to its present Chestnut Avenue campus in 1957, becoming Barton Peveril Grammar School. Finally, in 1973, Barton Peveril was designated as a sixth form college.
