Barton Peveril Sixth Form College hosted a Culture Day on Thursday 17th October 2024, offering students a range of activities and experiences to celebrate cultural diversity within Black History Month.

The event featured a variety of engaging activities, such as students showcasing their heritage through cultural performances, student-led stalls such as origami, henna, writing your name in Japanese and more.

Alix Christopher, ED&I Coordinator said:

The Culture Day was an incredible celebration of the diverse cultures that make up our student community. The day’s activities brought students together to learn about and appreciate each other’s backgrounds.

Students were also able to delve into Black History Month with guest speaker Helena Boyce. A passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in education. Helena is also the founder of YOUbutu, a space dedicated to exploring important topics surrounding racism, diversity and inclusion.

Joanne Mather, ED&I Committee Coordinator also said:

I was truly inspired by the vibrancy and energy of Culture Day. The students’ enthusiasm was contagious, and seeing the incredible traditional dresses from so many cultures was a highlight. The day really captured the diversity that makes our college so special, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for each other’s backgrounds. Events like this are crucial in building a sense of community and celebrating the unique contributions everyone brings to our college.
