Barton Peveril Student Harvey Snook’s Success In Elite Figure Skating

Balancing elite figure skating with his A-level studies, Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Harvey Snook is achieving remarkable success in this sport.

Harvey began skating at the age of seven after attending a birthday party at a local ice rink and quickly developed a passion for the sport. He progressed through the British Ice Skating levels and now competes nationally across several disciplines, including free skating, ice dance and synchronised skating.

Reflecting on his journey, Harvey said:

“I fell in love with skating straight away. Having coaches who really understand and support you makes a huge difference.”

In addition to competing, Harvey is heavily involved with Inclusive Skating, a charity that provides opportunities for skaters with disabilities. Inspired by his family, he qualified as an assistant coach last year and is now preparing to begin his coaching qualification. He also supported his brother when he represented Great Britain at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, an experience that was featured in the BBC documentary The World in Turin.

Harvey explained:

“Inclusive Skating shows what people can achieve when they’re given the right environment and encouragement.”

Alongside his sporting commitments, Harvey trains for approximately 20 hours per week, often starting early in the morning and travelling extensively for training and competitions. Despite this demanding schedule, he remains on track to complete his four A Levels and achieve the grades required for his first-choice university.

He added:

“My teachers at Barton Peveril have been really supportive while still pushing me academically, which has helped me manage everything.”

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College is proud to celebrate Harvey’s dedication and achievements. This success highlights the College’s commitment to supporting students who excel both academically and beyond the classroom.
