Big Barton Give Back Day and Sustainability Fair

Barton Peveril College hosted another successful Big Barton Give Back Day and Sustainability Fair, which took place on Thursday, May 7th, 2026. The event brought students and staff together to support local charities and the Eastleigh Basics Food Bank, while taking part in a range of sustainability-focused activities and fundraising initiatives across the college.

The event encouraged the college community to take practical action to support both the environment and local causes. Students participated in a wide variety of activities, including clothes swaps, entertainment exchanges and sales, food and recipe book donations, tech recycling initiatives, bike repair workshops, and pop-up sustainability stalls.

In the weeks leading up to the event, students generously donated clothes, books, board games, vinyl records, DVDs, and non-perishable food items. Across the event, the college community donated nearly 500 items to the Eastleigh Basics Food Bank and raised more than £300 for charitable causes.

The initiative also gave students the opportunity to engage with a range of internal and external stallholders, charities, and organisations, helping to create a positive and purposeful atmosphere throughout the day. Visiting organisations praised Barton Peveril students for their politeness, enthusiasm, and curiosity during the event, highlighting the strong sense of community demonstrated throughout.

The tutor group food bank competition once again proved popular, with Matt Arnmor’s tutor group securing first place for bringing in the highest number of donations.

Barton Peveril College extends their heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including students, staff, donors, and the many “behind-the-scenes” colleagues who helped organise and deliver the day.

Overall, The Big Barton Give Back Day reflected Barton Peveril College’s strong sense of community, student leadership, and ongoing commitment to sustainability and supporting others both within and beyond the college.
