The Barton Boxer

Barton Peveril sports student Taylor Bevan has won the 2018 English Amateur Boxing Championship (64 kilo). He defeated three top class opponents including a GB silver medallist and a former national champion at the event in Doncaster.

Speaking on his success

The 17 year old started boxing five years ago and was inspired to start in the sport by his father. Lester Bevan is a former competitive boxer and now coaches Taylor and the other members of the Poseidon Amateur Boxing Club at the Ageas Bowl.

“Boxing is a great sport as all the training encourages fitness and a healthy lifestyle,” says Taylor who is studying the extended diploma in sport at College. “I’m grateful to Barton for supporting me to succeed in boxing by rescheduling some of my classes and providing multigym facilities.”

Taylor, who went to Wyvern College in Fair Oak, now faces trials for the international squads of either England or Wales – he qualifies for either country as his mother is Welsh. His ambition is to compete in the Olympic Games.

We wish Taylor the best of luck in the trials and future.
