Barton Peveril Alumnus is on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College alumnus Kai Widdrington has joined BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer, taking to the floor with celebrity partner AJ Odudu for the 2021 series.
Kai, who attended Barton Peveril between 2011 and 2013, was previously a backing dancer on the show before earning his place as a professional dancer this year. Kai will now compete with his celebrity partner, television presenter AJ Odudu, for a shot at the coveted glitterball trophy.
This is not the first time the Barton Peveril alumnus has featured on television. Kai appeared on Britain’s Got Talent twice, in 2012 and 2014, and was a professional dancer on Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars between 2017 and 2020.
‘Larger than life’
Speaking on Kai’s success, Barton Peveril Principal Jonathan Prest said:
‘Kai was a larger than life character in the Performing Arts Department when he was at Barton and few of us will forget the talent and magic he brought to the College Musical, West Side Story. It is tremendous to see how his career has developed since, rocketing to new heights as one of the professionals in “Strictly”. Many here at Barton who knew him will be backing him and his dance partner, celebrity AJ Odudu, to reach the final.’
