Barton Peveril Student’s Degree Apprenticeship

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College alumnus Thomas Russell is earning whilst learning, after successfully securing a Degree Apprenticeship with Taylor Wimpey during his time at College. Russell was offered the position with one of Britain’s largest house building companies after excelling during a two week work experience placement with the company’s Southampton based office.
The Barton Peveril alumnus, who also attended Swanmore College, studied Mathematics, Physics, and Economics between 2017 and 2019. After finishing his studies, Russell began the Degree Apprenticeship in Commercial Management. Earning whilst he attains a degree, the alumnus works closely with a Quantity Surveyor in the running of their building sites across the region.
Russell (pictured above) returned to Barton Peveril for its annual Futures Fair, where he shared his experience with students and offered them an insight into his career path so they could follow the same trajectory.
‘Meet the Employer’
Russell attended one of the College’s ‘Meet the Employer’ Lectures, where he was introduced to Taylor Wimpey and began a relationship that would see him earn a Degree Apprenticeship with the firm. ‘Meet the Employer’ Lectures offer students an opportunity to learn about the journey professionals in a range of careers have taken, so they can follow in their footsteps and progress into the careers they aspire to.
Speaking on his achievement, Thomas Russell said:
‘I couldn’t be happier in my job role and look forward to going to work everyday. If I hadn’t attended the ‘Meet The Employer’ talk when Taylor Wimpey came in, I would not be completing a Degree Apprenticeship with them now’.
