Barton Peveril Catering Assistant Steps up to the Plate

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College Catering and Retail Assistant, Sharon Callaghan, has walked 310,000 steps throughout March to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research UK.

Callaghan undertook the national challenge, which asks fundraisers to walk 10,000 steps every day in March, to do her bit to support the UK-based charity.

In order to complete the challenge Callaghan has varied her role in the College, working in different cafes around campus so that she can get her steps in whilst at work. The Barton Peveril member of staff also took on longer walks in the evenings and at the weekend to get her step count to the 10,000 mark each day.

“I can do that!”

Speaking on her endeavour, Sharon Callaghan said:

‘Lots of us donate to good causes and I saw the advert on TV and thought “I can do that!” I’ve found some of it a bit challenging but I’ve persisted for the good cause and I’m actually enjoying it with the good weather – more so than I thought.’
