Barton Peveril College is very aware that this week will have resonance for years to come as a moment when the need to create a fairer, just and more equal global community became overwhelmingly clear. The Black Lives Matter movement, protests, and demands for change have been heard loud and clear across the world. We intend to play our part in bringing about change.
Members of the College community have been shocked by recent painful images, videos and events in the news depicting the deplorable acts against black people, because of their skin colour and systemic racism. We will not be complicit through silence. We stand with all of our students and staff in our commitment to creating a better world.
Staff at the College actively seek to monitor, advance and encourage the active participation of all individuals and groups. We meet our commitment to equality and diversity legislation and celebrate the enrichment diversity brings to the workforce and our student population.
In the next few weeks of this term, the Barton Peveril Tutorial Programme will raise awareness, create opportunities for meaningful dialogue and offer advice and guidance for students and staff on supporting and advocating this global cause. Staff members have already compiled an incredible list of meaningful resources and materials that promote empathy as an essential ingredient in creating fairer communities. The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee will continue, through their College-wide contributions, to prepare students for living in a global community where fairness and mutual respect are at the core of everything we do.
Warm regards,
Jonathan Prest, Principal
