Barton Peveril Futures Fair Success

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College ignited curiosity and ambition in its student body during the annual Futures Fair held on Thursday 8th February, 2024. With a bustling sports hall transformed into a hub of opportunity, the college welcomed 58 esteemed employers and apprenticeship providers, alongside representatives from renowned universities.

The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as students explored a myriad of post-college prospects, seeking answers to their questions and envisioning their future paths. The event was attended by big employers in Hampshire such as the NHS, Ministry of Defence, BAE Systems, PETA and more.

Katrina Andrews, Marketing and Communications Manager at Knights Brown Construction spoke about career opportunities at Knights Brown:

I’m here at Barton today to showcase Knights Brown and raise awareness of the construction industry. Hopefully, giving all of the younger generation more insight into construction and more options that they should be aware of.

Emma Quance, School Engagement, from PETA (Portsmouth Engineering Training Association) spoke about her attendance at the event:

I’m here to advocate the apprenticeship routes to all Barton Peveril students. We specialise in engineering, IT, business and finance. We are looking for people who are looking to take control of their career and give it a big kickstart!

A representative from the NHS spoke about the lesser-known career paths at the NHS:

Today we’re here just talking about all of the career pathways in the NHS. We have over 350 different careers that people can go into, from entry level and also to develop in their careers. Although my background is in Nursing, we have such as wide variety of jobs, everything from carpentry to accountancy, IT specialists. We are hoping to provide more students with information on how to get into those careers and just reinforce the message that it’s not only Nursing, Medicine, Physio and the typical careers that people associate with the NHS that are available.

A representative from HWB Chartered Accountants, Business and Tax Advisers spoke about what they offer:

We put particular emphasis on our Trainee Scheme which was designed to support College and University leavers start their career in accountancy. We find meeting and chatting to students at the careers fair hugely beneficial to answer any specific questions they have about starting a career in this field.

A staggering 2271 students immersed themselves in the wealth of opportunities presented by attending the Fair.

Ben Harry, a Second Year Student, formerly of Thornden School commented on the event:

The Futures Fair seems to improve each year, the companies visiting always allow for a solid Plan A and B after college.

Barton Peveril’s Futures Fair not only served as a platform for students to explore their aspirations but also as a testament to the college’s unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and preparing its students for life after college.
