Barton Peveril Student Selected for National Netball Squad

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Darcie Gray.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Darcie Gray has been selected for the Association of Colleges (AoC) English National Netball Squad.

Gray, who formerly attended The Mountbatten School, competed against hundreds of other students for her place in the 20-person squad.

Darcie Gray, who plays club netball for Swan Netball Club in Eastleigh and represents Barton Peveril’s Elite Netball Team, was nominated for a trial by her coaches at Barton Peveril Netball. Gray attended a trial in Nottingham where 250 of the country’s college players were narrowed down to 20.

Gray will travel around the country, competing against other national teams and against county level teams from across the United Kingdom. Her first match with the squad will take place in Sunderland, competing against county teams from the north of the United Kingdom.

“Such a good opportunity”

Speaking on her success, Darcie Gray said:

‘My coach Sonja Payne and Teacher of Sport Alix Christopher told me about the trial and put my name forward, which I thought I should take as it’s such a good opportunity. I am proud that I am the only member of the squad who does not play for a Netball Performance League team but am competing with some of the best players from the best teams in the country.’
