Barton Peveril Teacher of PE, Katie Spooner, has become Assistant Coach for the Women’s Association of Colleges (AoC) National Hockey Squad for the 2022/23 academic year.

Spooner coaches the Barton Peveril Sixth Form College’s Women’s Hockey Team, who won the 2021/22 season AoC Hockey Championship, becoming the best team in the country. After building up her credentials, the Association deemed her suitable to coach the AoC National Hockey team, which will consist of advanced athletes, who will meet up for intensive training and matches over the season.

The Association of Colleges (AoC) is an organisation for college-level sports teams, who enter leagues to play against other colleges in the country. It also compiles the finest athletes, and creates teams, who represent the National AoC squads.

Spooner’s role will involve organising training sessions and supporting the squad’s development throughout the season. The squad will compete in various fixtures throughout the year.

Speaking on her appointment, Katie Spooner said:

“I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and helping the girls involved improve even further as athletes.”

Trials for the squad took place in November, with the squad set to play in February 2023.
