Barton Peveril Regional Winners of the Great Big Dance Off

The Barton Peveril Sixth Form College Dance Company won the Regional Heats of The Great Big Dance Off Competition, making them Key Stage 4/5 Champions for the South Region.

The Great Big Dance Off is a national competition which allows students to dance on a professional stage and compete against other schools and colleges.

Barton Peveril students travelled to Wyvern Theatre in Swindon on Monday 20th March, where they took to the stage and competed against 10 other school and college dance groups. They were awarded first place for their performance piece ‘What Lies Beneath’ after scoring 44 points higher than the second place participants.

As winners of the South Region, Barton’s Dance Company students are set to compete in the National Finals on 26th June at Cheltenham Town Hall.

In the lead up to the Finals, they will be performing in our two dance shows on Thursday 18th May and Friday 19th May.

Laura Agnew, Subject Leader for Dance spoke about the competition:

I am so incredibly proud of the dancers. It was our first time competing in this competition and we didn’t know what to expect. However, the dancers performed so beautifully and their performance was so strong, with one judge even stating it was the best piece he had seen since judging the competition. The 1st place win really was the icing on the cake and we can’t wait to get back into the studio to prepare for the National Competition.”
