Barton Peveril student Matt Evans has been chosen as the Lord-Lieutenant for Hampshire’s Sea Cadet for 2017-18.
The 17 year old will escort and support Lord-Lieutenant Nigel Atkinson on various duties throughout the year, starting with Remembrance Day commemorations. The Lord-Lieutenant is the Queen’s personal representative in the county, escorts members of the Royal Family during visits and has close links with the military.
Matt, who lives in Chandler’s Ford and attended Toynbee School, has been a Sea Cadet for six years.
“The highlight of my time as a Sea Cadet was taking part in the Tall Ships Race in the Baltic. I have learned so much in terms of self-confidence and communication skills and being a Sea Cadet has made me the person I am today.”
Matt is now studying A levels in Geography, Sociology and Photography and would like to work for a humanitarian aid charity after leaving College.
