Barton Peveril Student Hannah Barber Awarded in the Rotary Young Photography Competition

The Abyss, photographed by Hannah Barber

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Hannah Barber awarded in the Rotary Young Photography Competition 2023.

The Rotary Young Photographer Competition is a well-established and successful Cambridge competition which encourages students to use digital and traditional methods of photography, show unique interpretation of their chosen topic and express their ideas through the medium of photography. The competition is open for all young people in schools, colleges and other young people communities.

Hannah Barber entered the Intermediate Year 11 – 13 category and has been selected to display their creative photography piece, The Abyss in the final exhibition. These photographs were initially exhibited at The Barn at Ringwood School, on Thursday 20th April. The exhibition then followed through to be displayed at the New Forest Heritage Centre Gallery in Lyndhurst on Saturday 29th April and will remain open to the public until early June.

Art Photography student, Hannah Barber comments on her success:

This is a first step to hopefully more success in the future.

Barton Peveril teacher of Photography, David Tipper also comments on Barber’s success:

We are really proud of Hannah and so pleased that this image has been chosen to be in the Rotary Interschool Photography Competition. This photograph is part of a larger body of work which explores wildlife and the importance of conservation. At a time when our climate is in need of our help the most, it’s students like Hannah who help to lead the way towards a more positive future for all. It’s a great shot and brings together the challenges of location based photography and digital editing skills. I look forward to seeing H’s work go from strength to strength and hope that this influences more young people to take on similar important topics.
