Barton Peveril Sixth Form Student Liv Austin has secured an athletic scholarship, and is set to study in Phoenix, Arizona in September 2023.
Liv Austin, a Second Year student at Barton Peveril, began applying for a scholarship in 2021, interviewing various coaches that had shown interest in her, and getting her eligibility confirmed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
She received three offers from various Division One schools, including two 100% scholarships, and decided to study Graphic Design and Advertising, at the Grand Canyon University, in Phoenix, Arizona.
The former Upper Shirley High School pupil will continue to practise athletics alongside Graphic Design and Advertising, specialising in Discus and Hammer throw to an international standard. She had always planned to study in the US, and realised that she wanted to go down the Graphics route after studying Graphic Communication at Barton Peveril.
“Sarah and Kenzie (Austin’s Graphic Communication teachers) make an amazing team and ensure you always understand the work. They’re very good at helping you get ideas if you’re stuck, or feeling uninspired. They have really enabled my creative development, leading me to pick this degree.”
She visited the GCU campus over the October half term break:
“The campus in Phoenix was beautiful, all the buildings were so modern, and the technology on the campus was amazing! You could really see the sense of community within the students!”

Liv Austin will fly out to Phoenix in August 2023:
“I am really looking forward to starting a new chapter of my life out in Arizona, it feels like all the hard work of me and my coach is finally starting to pay off!”
