Barton Peveril Sixth Form College Student, Jack Hayes, is set to perform in the upcoming show, ‘Alice – A Musical Adventure in Wonderland’ by Southampton-based MAST Mayflower Studios.
Hayes, a Second Year student at Barton Peveril, started performing with MAST Mayflower Studios in Summer 2021, when he did a project called Grim Tales, and has done every project since at the studios. MAST Mayflower Studios is a hub for performing arts, which aims to inspire performers in Southampton, and support them on their artistic journey.
The show, which will run between 17th to 31st December, is an adaptation of the classic Lewis Carroll books, as well as the 1951 Disney film. It follows a similar plot, as well as featuring a lot of recognisable songs for many audiences. Jack will play a character called ‘Toffee’, who is a penny-styled sweet with a sticky and sugar taste. He is currently enrolled in an extra-curricular activity at Barton Peveril – Drama Production.
Auditions for the show were held at the Mayflower Theatre, in Southampton City Centre. It saw the auditionees perform a prepared monologue and song, and then learn a dance routine on the day. After everyone was asked to showcase a different talent, Jack decided to get out of his wheelchair and show off some of his floor work. After the auditions, Jack was assigned his group: the ‘Wonderlandarian’.
Speaking on the show, Jack said:
“I am really looking forward to performing in the show, and can’t wait for the audience to see it. There are moments they will smile, laugh or even be scared.”
‘Alice – A Musical Adventure in Wonderland’ will run until 31st December at the MAST Mayflower Studio.
