Barton Peveril Student Signs Contract with Sholing FC

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student, Theo Widger has signed his first semi-professional contract with Sholing Football Club (FC).

Widger was announced as a player on the 13th June, after signing the contract on the 20th May.

Theo Widger, former student of Crestwood Community School, explains how he received his first semi-professional contract:

I joined Sholing Under 18s in October of 2022 and claimed the number one spot, which gave me the chance to push into the Under 23s in February. Having claimed the 23s spot as my own, eyes turned towards me when the first team goalkeeper picked up a suspension. I had a successful debut in a 1-0 win away to Willand Rovers, and the manager was really good to me and gave 3 more games from then, including the playoff semi final in which we beat Wimborne Town, 2-1. I played 4, winning 3 and drawing 1 at the end of the season. The first team managers requested a meeting with me and my parents where they laid out their plans for my development and progression through the club which I accepted and signed the contract they offered me.

It’s a club with a real family feel to it and I have amazing people around me which is why I felt inclined to extend my stay and officially sign. I’m now looking ahead to next season and looking to push on and further my development. As great of an achievement as it is I believe I’m far from satisfied and want this to be the beginning of a long and successful career.
