Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students were formally invited to celebrate Unity 101’s 17th anniversary as a community radio station on Friday 6th January, which took place at the Novotel Hotel, Southampton.
This is an annual event run by Unity 101 to mark the achievements of their volunteers, partners and students who are part of the schools and college programmes. The celebratory night also consisted of food, entertainment from dancers, musicians to guest speakers and awards with Lady Edwina Grosvenor from High Sheriff of Hampshire as keynote speaker
Barton Peveril’s Media and I.T. teacher Katie Pepper presented an award with guest Laura Barbey (also belonging to the media department) to Isla Croll, former Brookfield Community School student on behalf of the team who attended the event; Amelia Husslebee, former Wildern School student and also former Swanmore College student, Ruth Miller.
Miller exclaims:
“We thoroughly enjoyed this magical evening, experiencing a showcase of the diverse community of Southampton – full of dancing and inspirational speeches including the celebration of our successes.”
Katie Pepper speaks on the event:
“It was lovely to be back in person for the awards this year as it meant that Ruth and Amelia could also attend to see Isla collect the award on behalf of them as a group, as their shows are so good due to the wonderful chemistry and friendship that the three of them have.”
