The students explored Los Angeles, experiencing a guided tour of the city’s famous tourist attractions including Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Hollywood Boulevard and a visit to Disneyland. The group also toured Universal Warner Bros. Studios, Sony Studios, and Universal Studios where they ventured onto the set of notable films and television series such as Friends.

The trip offered students a chance to immerse themselves in the world’s media epicentre, offering the chance to experience subject material in real life and see what life behind the scenes looks like.

“A unique opportunity”

Speaking on the trip, Barton Peveril Subject Leader of Film Studies, Laura Barbey, said:

“Future filmmakers from Barton Peveril experienced Oscar week in LA, visiting the site of the Academy Awards as well as enjoying tours of all the major Hollywood Studios. Our students got to live out their Hollywood Dreams, from getting to hold real Oscars to visiting Central Perk. It was truly a unique opportunity to visit the lots where films they study such as La La Land and Blade Runner were made.”

Student Eden Mullins, who formerly attended Meoncross School and is also a Young Report for Into Film, said:

“It truly was the trip of a lifetime. Seeing all the studios and sights of LA was so much fun for someone who’s interested in film and the sunshine was definitely a bonus.”
