Barton Peveril Students Lost in Translation

A dynamic collaboration unfolded as French, Japanese, Spanish and German students converged for a transformative Modern Languages and Translation Workshop at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College on Wednesday 13th December 2023.

This enriching event, led by the senior lecturers Dr. Enora Lessinger and Dr. Laurence Mann of Oxford Brookes University, provided students with invaluable insights into the intricate world of language translation.

The workshop showcased the students’ prowess through engaging activities, including bridge translations. Bridge Translations is a service that can provide an accurate and reliable translation of many common documents, such as brochures, certificates and flyers, which can help researchers understand the complexities of unfamiliar languages. The sixth-form students also delved into the intriguing challenges of ‘translation gone wrong’, honing their linguistic skills and fostering a deeper appreciation for the art of translation.

The day was marked by enthusiasm, collaboration and a genuine passion for languages.

This immersive experience broadened the students’ horizons and served as a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering a global perspective through language education. As the Barton Peveril students left the workshop, they carried with them enhanced language skills and a profound understanding of the multifaceted world of modern foreign languages and translation.
