Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students, Sam Ward and Tobey Ferguson, have been selected for the Army Officer Sixth Form Scholarship Scheme, allocated to them in October.
As part of the scholarship, the Second Year students have been guaranteed a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, alongside academic funding that includes a Standard Army Undergraduate Bursary of £6,000 and £3,000 towards their A Level qualifications
The students applied to the scheme in their First Year, and attended the Army Officer Selection Board, which involved a rigorous three-day selection process that tested their physical, mental, academic and leadership skills.
Only 100 candidates nationally are awarded the annual scholarship. The scholarship guarantees a place at the selective academy, as well as £3000 to support them during their A Level studies, and £6000 towards their Undergraduate degree, which they are expected to complete.
Sam Ward spoke about his accomplishment:
“I have always wanted to join the forces as an officer, so being chosen for this prestigious award by the Army is a massive honour”
Tobey Ferguson looks forward to his military prospect:
“I feel extremely excited about my future that lies within the British Army and encourage anyone who is thinking about attempting selection for the award to give it a crack.”
