Barton Peveril’s Annual Higher Education and Futures Fairs

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students attended the College’s annual Higher Education and Futures Fairs, on 5th and 12th March respectively, to think ahead and plan for their next steps. Local school pupils also had the opportunity to attend, with Thornden School, Brookfield Community School, and Swanmore College pupils visiting across both events.
Students were able to meet with representatives from over 80 universities from across the United Kingdom, and beyond, at the Higher Education Fair and with over 50 of the world’s biggest employers at the Futures Fair.
Higher Education Fair

At the Higher Education Fair, university representatives were on hand to share insight into their courses and wider opportunities. Universities represented included the prestigious Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the local University of Southampton and University of Portsmouth, Welsh and Scottish institutions including Cardiff University and University of Glasgow, and even Institute of the Arts Barcelona from Spain.
Former Barton Peveril student Amelia Alexander returned to College, as a Student Ambassador with University of Brighton. Speaking on the Fair, the alumni said:
“I was very uncertain about where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do, all my teachers at Barton were so supportive. The Fair and my teachers helped me make a decision I was confident in.”
Speaking on the benefits of the Higher Education Fair for students, Lucy Fisher from the University of Surrey said:
“It’s good for them to know all the different options as it’s quite easy just to go to universities that they have previously heard about and it shows all the different ranges. It’s also good to see that there’s more than your typical subjects.”
Futures Fair

The Futures Fair saw the College and its students welcome a number of local and global organisations, sharing their Apprenticeship, Degree Apprenticeship, and Employment opportunities. Attendees included IBM, Taylor Wimpey, and BAE Systems alongside PwC, Eastleigh Borough Council and the Royal Navy.
Barton Peveril’s Career’s Manager, Shoonagh Hubble, spoke highly of the Futures Fair:
“Staff and students were delighted by the wide range of industries represented at the Fair, from engineering to accountancy, health, maritime, and computer solutions. It was great to see so many Barton Peveril students and pupils from local schools engaging with the representatives, discussing their futures and the careers they want to pursue.”
