Barton Peveril Students Reach Semi Final of National Hockey Competition

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College’s Women’s Hockey Team

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College’s Women’s Hockey Team have reached the semi finals of the Association of Colleges (AoC) National Cup. The team will now play Queen Ethleburga’s College in York for the semi final match on 30th March 2022.

The Barton Peveril squad qualified after beating Peter Symonds College 5-2 in their quarter final match, on Wednesday 2nd March 2022. Student Maddie Hitch scored twice, with Esme Hills, PJ Watkins and Gracie Coleman each scoring once to help the team reach the next stage in the national competition.

The AoC National Cup is a competition open to every college in England, with students playing in regional tournaments before turning to face other college teams from institutions across the country.

This is the furthest the Hampshire-based College team has come in the competition in recent years.

“A great team effort”

Speaking on the success, Barton Peveril Hockey Coach Katie Spooner said:

“The girls picked it up in the second half and blew PSC out the water, a great team effort! Player of the game goes to Megan Page for stepping up her game and creating opportunities in the middle.”

Barton Peveril Director of Sport, Luke Hampton, also commented on the success:

“A huge well done to our Women’s Hockey Team, whose hard work and dedication has secured their place in a national semi final. We cannot wait to see them take to the pitch again, in York!”
