Barton Peveril Students Return to the Stage

Barton Peveril Students Perform Oklahoma!

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students returned to the stage once again, for their production of Oklahoma! in the College’s extensively remodelled Rose Theatre between 9th and 12th November 2021.

This is the first time Second Year students on the Performing Arts: Musical Theatre course have been able to perform to a live, in-person audience whilst at the Hampshire-based College because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The performances took place in the College’s Rose Theatre, which underwent a £1.35 million reconstruction, now boasts 372 seats, fully updated technical infrastructure (the latest lighting, staging and sound technology), and offers another, larger functional space for current students to practice and perform for their numerous annual College productions.

As well as performances to friends and family, the Barton Peveril students performed to local residents and pupils from across the county’s schools in a bid to inspire the next generation of performing arts students.

‘An amazing experience for us all’

Speaking on the production, Barton Peveril’s Director of Performing Arts, Anneka Wass, said:

‘It is wonderful for our Second Year students to have finally performed in a full scale musical post-pandemic. We chose Oklahoma! as it is a highly influential show, which inspired many future musicals in terms of its structure, characters and the use of the dream ballet. I think the students did really well to perform with such professionalism and we are all really proud of what they achieved.’

Student Luca Falco-Pitt, who performed in the production, said:

Oklahoma! has been an amazing experience for us all. It was incredible to be a part of such a professional production, and having had the opportunity to be back participating in live theatre is truly magical.’
