Barton Peveril Students’ Swan Lake Spectacular

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students performed their rendition of classic ballet Swan Lake to a sell-out audience of friends, family and local residents on Friday 18th March 2022.

The event saw 42 ballet dancers from the Dance Company enrichment activity take to the stage in the College’s Rose Theatre. This is the biggest ballet production in Barton Peveril history.

“Sheer scale and ambition”

Speaking on the production, Vice Principal (Curriculum, Schools and Community), Rob Temple, said:

“I just wanted to congratulate all those involved in the production of Swan Lake on Friday night. I was completely unprepared for the sheer scale and ambition of the production. The quality of the performances, the choreography, costumes, lighting and set was all the more remarkable given that this was a result of the Dance Company Q-XTRA – so 1.5 hrs a week since October.

“The team were also missing all their usual technical support due to COVID-19 throughout the week and for the performance but students, Hannah (Facilities Administrator) and Ellie (Student Technician) stepped in and stepped up to ensure the whole thing passed off beautifully.

“A huge well done to Subject Leader for Dance, Laura Agnew, for organising, inspiring and choreographing it all and enabling the students to enjoy such a rewarding experience during their time at College.

Speaking on her students’ performance, Subject Leader for Dance, Laura Agnew, commented:

“I am blown away by our students’ spectacular performance of such a classic and challenging ballet. Each and every student went above and beyond, putting in countless hours of practice to make a truly wonderful performance come to fruition. They should all be so proud of what they have achieved.”
