Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students outperformed the national average at the 2022 Senior Mathematics Challenge, which took place in October, with 22 gold medalists.

The students, who study A Level Mathematics at Barton Peveril, sat the 90 minute, multiple choice exam, on the 4th October. The test sets out to challenge the students on their mathematical reasoning and precision.

The college had 190 mathematicians sit the annual exam, with the results placing the students half a percent ahead of the national Senior Mathematics Challenge average.

Only the top 11% average attain a Gold, and among those top scorers at Barton Peveril are Beth Everett, Tom Forster, Chris Foster, Alex Jones, Garam Lee and Alice Seaman.

The Senior Mathematics Challenge high scorers will be invited to take part in the next round of Senior Kangaroo, and the top three will take part in the British Maths Olympiad Round One.

Garam Lee, First Year student of Mathematics and Further Mathematics, scored the highest in the college:

“It is such an honour to come first place in such a large college! – but the next round is where, really, we need to put our head down and get to work.”
