Barton Peveril Sixth Form College welcomed professionals and academics from across the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields for its annual Careers in STEM Day on Wednesday 9th March 2022.
The academics and professionals delivered sessions virtually throughout the day, giving the College’s budding STEM students an insight into the degrees, apprenticeships and careers open to them after their Sixth Form studies.
Amongst those in attendance were: Jonathan Ridley, Head of Engineering at Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering; Harriet Gamble, Instruments and Systems Engineer at Airbus Defence and Space; alumnus Toby Green and Peter Gambetta, who both now work at IBM; and Dominic Dawson (Chief Engineer), Paul Austin-Diment (Technical Account Manager), and Mark Stephenson (Training Manager) from Zurich.
The Careers in STEM Day is one of many such days at the Hampshire-based College, with other themed days including Careers in Healthcare, Sport, Performing Arts, and Art.
“Young people engaged in their future career journeys”
Speaking on the event, Dominic Dawson, Chief Engineer, Zurich, said:
“It was fantastic to see young people engaged in their future career journeys and to share with them some of the exciting STEM based opportunities here at Zurich”
Peter Gambetta, who previously attended Barton Peveril before joining IBM in Public Cloud Technical Sales, added:
“Barton Peveril was incredible with accommodating and assisting me during my application process to IBM with helping to apply as well as preparing for my interviews. It is such a pleasure to come back and talk about my journey and hopefully inspire others to look at IBM for not just a career but also a method to continue to learn and grow.”
