Barton Peveril Student Wins International Competition

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Samuel Hawker has won InvestIN’s My Peaceful Place: The Young Photographer Competition. Hawker was the winner of the competition, which received over 3,500 entries from students around the world.
InvestIN is a UK-based organisation that provides students aged 12-18 with an immersive experience of their dream career. As a result of his success, Hawker will receive career opportunities with InvestIN.
Hawker, who is in his second year at the Hampshire-based College, heard about the competition through his teacher David Tipper. The student’s photo, titled Tranquillity Trapped in a Glass Ball (attached), was captured during the first lockdown of 2020. Samuel Hawker woke up at 06:00 to take the photo, accompanied by his father.
This is the first success in the aspiring photographer’s career, as he looks to continue his study of photography at university in autumn.
‘Great for my career’
Speaking on his success, Samuel Hawker said:
‘To win the competition is nice because the publicity is great for my career. But, it’s also nice for my work to get some validation. It’s great to win and fantastic to give a charitable cause the publicity it deserves.’
