Inaugural Barton Peveril Careers in STEAM Day
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College held its first ever Careers in STEAM Day, on Wednesday 5th February 2020. The event saw academics and professionals from across the south offer lectures on their work in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) fields.
A series of lectures were held on the day, offering students an insight into the future careers that await them within STEAM disciplines. Among the speakers were Barton Peveril alumni James Walsh and George Bates, who are now Software Engineering Degree Apprentices at Roke, and IBM Cyber Security professional Will Murphy.
Diverse range of representatives
Representatives from University of Southampton, Fiander Tovell, Airbus, Chris Carter Architecture, and Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering also attended the event offering lectures on teaching STEAM subjects, Accountancy, Aerospace Engineering, Architecture, and Maritime Engineering, respectively.
Speaking on the day, Barton Peveril Careers Adviser Andrew Wareham said:
“It was lovely to welcome representatives from such a diverse range of STEAM related industries. The many students who attended talks now have a greater understanding of the variety of opportunities available to them and how creativity plays such an essential role in so many of them.”
