Barton Peveril’s FA People’s Cup Team placed 3rd nationally in the final held at St. George’s Park, on Saturday 27th April.

The team won the South East Regional, held at Royal Holloway University on Monday 25th March, beating teams from throughout the region. The team then faced the winners of all the other regional competitions, in the College group of the tournament, where they placed 3rd.

Bronze Medalists

The bronze-medal winning team consists of former Crestwood Community School pupil Lewis Crate, former Upper Shirley High School pupils Benny O’Farrell, Reece Reed and Toby Budd, former Applemore College pupil Jamie Ketley, former Henry Cort Community College pupil Joe Bull, and former Portchester Community School pupil Matthew Corless.

Barton Peveril Physical Education Coach Ed Colley commented on the Team’s achievement:

“It was a great achievement from the guys to reach St George’s Park. Once they got there they played fantastically all day and were eventually knocked out in the semi-finals by the team that went on to win the tournament, which resulted in them finishing 3rd nationally. The facilities at St George’s Park are world class and we’re thankful to the tournament organisers for giving our students the opportunity to play at such a brilliant facility.”

Barton Peveril student Matthew Corless spoke on the event:

“The experience, as whole, was fantastic as the team and I were in very high spirits and looking forward to playing at a place where many legends have trained. Finishing 3rd out of the competition is a huge achievement and it will embedded for years to come and I’m chuffed to say that I played at St George’s Park.”
