Barton Peveril Student Selected for Olympic Programme
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Monique Vennis-Ozanne has been highlighted as a potential future Olympian after being selected for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Transition Group – 49er Winter 2020/21.
The Transition Group aims to bridge the gap between youth and adult sailing, with a focus on developing youth sailors into Olympic athletes. Vennis-Ozanne and her teammate have been selected for the 49erFX (Women’s Double Handed Skiff) group. The second year student’s selection recognises her potential to progress within British Youth Sailing to the British Sailing Team.
Monique, who formerly attended Crofton School, has been selected based on her performance and commitment to a programme of training and competition over a period of several years. This establishes her status as a British Youth Sailing sailor who could represent Great Britain at major international events in the forthcoming years.
This is the latest in a series of successes for the Barton Peveril student, who also benefits from the College’s Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS). Earlier this year, Vennis-Ozanne won the RYA Regional Youth Sailor of the Year Award during the annual RYA Dinghy Show in London’s Alexandra Palace.
Speaking on her selection, Monique Vennis-Ozanne said:
“I’m very happy to have been selected for the squad, it is the first step in my ambition to go to the Olympics.”
