The former Thornden School pupil, who trains at Southampton Athletics Club, is part of a team of 6 students representing England across 10 events. Douglas is representing England in one event, the Discus.

The 17-year-old Barton Peveril athlete is new to the sport after taking part in his first competition aged 15, an event that saw him place 1st in England.

Speaking on his selection, Joshua Douglas said:

“Being selected was something I didn’t expect when I first started and it’s great my coach saw the potential to help me get there.

“I don’t know how I’ll do but I can’t wait to go to Croatia. When I first started throwing I never thought I could get this far but it’s a really good feeling you get from seeing that the potential my coaches always said I had is slowly starting to become a reality, which I’m finally starting to see glimpses of.”
