Barton Peveril’s Future Doctors

Barton Peveril’s Future Doctors

A large number of Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students are celebrating offers to study Medicine at university this year. 12 students have been offered places on the highly sought-after and competitive courses at universities around the country.

This high number of offers is an additional accolade in another successful year for the College, which is also celebrating its highest number of students offered places to study at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Local School Successes

The students offered places joined Barton Peveril from a number of local secondary schools.

Schools in Eastleigh saw alumni successes: former Crestwood Community School students Chloe Barltrop, The Toynbee School alumni Holly Dewbury, and St. George Catholic College’s previous pupil Danika George.

Southampton-based Bitterne Park Secondary School, St. Anne’s Catholic School, Cantell School, Upper Shirley High School, and King Edward VI School had former pupils offered places: Tahmind Mohammed Rayhan, Julia Ostropolska, Najma Hussain, Jacob Marsh, and Luke Alexander, respectively.

Brookfield Community School and Henry Cort Community College, from the Fareham area, each had a former student offered a place; Owen Spicer and Abbi Mustafa, respectively.

Alastair Nixon and Abbie Miller of Wildern School and The Romsey School were each also offered places on the prestigious courses.

“A triumph”

Speaking on this success, Barton Peveril Principal Jonathan Prest said:

“The number of Barton students who have achieved offers for medicine this year is a triumph and reflects the care we have taken to meet the specific needs of this group.

We have been working over the past 4-5 years to find the most effective ways of working with candidates through a blend of academic extension, work experience, appropriate enrichment and one to one mentoring.  I am delighted for those 15 individuals involved who have seen long standing dreams become possible and for the staff who have steered and supported them so expectly.”

Barton Peveril Careers Manager, Shoonagh Hubble, also commented on the achievements:

“This achievement is due not only to the hard work of the students involved but also to the support of Barton Peveril’s volunteer mentors, all of whom have held senior roles in the NHS, to our work experience programme, and to the weekly Med Vet prep Q-XTRA, which provides admissions test practice and ethical and scientific discussions ensuring that our Medicine candidates are fully prepared for interviews and assessments.”
