Eastleigh Sports Awards
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College staff, students and alumni won, and were short-listed for, a range of awards in the Eastleigh Sports Awards (celebrating 2018) that took place on Monday 11th February 2019 at The Hilton at the Ageas Bowl.
Students Taylor Bevan and Maisie Stocks won Junior the Sports Person of the Year and Outstanding Personal Achievement awards respectively, whilst Direct of Sport Luke Hampton was named Coach of the Year. The Barton Peveril Swim Team and This Girl Can Ambassadors were both short-listed for awards in the ceremony, too; the Swim Team for the Team of the Year Award and the This Girl Can Ambassadors for the Project of the Year Award.
Barton Peveril almuna Dani Rowe was also recognised in the ceremony, awarded the Special Recognition Award after she retired from professional cycling late last year; Dani Rowe won an Olympic gold during London 2012.

A Successful Year
Former Wyvern College pupil Taylor Bevan won his award following a successful start to his Boxing career, winning the English Amateur Boxing Championship (64 kilo) earlier this year.

Student Maisie Stocks, who previously attended Thornden School, was awarded following her recent involvement on The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge for BBC Children in Need. On receiving her award, Maisie said:
“This is such an incredible achievement, and I am so grateful for the nomination. I still can’t believe it, but there are so many others that were nominated and I want to congratulate them on their achievements and their determination.”

Barton Peveril Director of Sport Luke Hampton was recognised for his coaching skills and his appointment as the ESFA English Schools under 18s Assistant Manager. Speaking on his award, Luke Hampton said:
“I am delighted to win this award. I’m thankful for the coaching opportunities that have come my way in recent years and look forward to seeing what myself and the fantastic players I work with can achieve next.”

The Swim Team were short-listed following a successful competitive year, where they recently finished 3rd nationally in the Freestyle Relay and 5th nationally in the Medley Relay at the English Schools’ Swimming Association National Final held in London’s Olympic Pool.
The This Girl Can Ambassadors were short-listed for their efforts running events that aim to improve fitness and confidence amongst women in College and the local community.
