Celebrating Barton Peveril Athletes

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College proudly congratulates its students for their representation in the England College’s Hockey team during the recent February half-term break, marking an impressive start to this year’s programme.

For over two decades, the Association of Colleges’, (AoC), National Colleges’ hockey teams have provided a platform for talented athletes to showcase their skills in domestic and international arenas. This team comprises top-performing athletes who engage in a series of matches throughout the year.

Among the outstanding students securing a place in the Men’s England College Hockey squad are Toby Roberts, Ben Miles, Fin Scott and Lorne Thomson. Additionally, Emma Boddington shines bright as the sole female representative from the Hampshire-based College.

The talented students secured their position through a rigorous one-day trial last November, demonstrating their dedication and commitment to the sport. Their debut fixtures over the February half-term yielded remarkable results, with the men’s team securing victories in Lincoln against Lincoln University (7-2) and Lindum 2’s (10-0), with Lorne Thomson notably adding to the scoreboard with a goal.

Meanwhile, the Women’s squad commenced their journey in Telford, facing off against England University in two matches, showcasing teamwork despite falling short in both games. The experience proved invaluable in honing their strategic plays and demonstrating a strong team.

It is great that as a college, we make up such a big number in the squads, and it is a credit to the local clubs the students attend for developing them into such quality players.
