Charity climb

His current focus is on A Level exams but within days of completing the last paper Matt Wateridge will be hard at work in an East African hospital before climbing Kilimanjaro in aid of Help for Heroes.

WEB-Matt-Wateridge-i-2The 18-year-old Biology, Chemistry and Maths student has a place to study medicine at Manchester University when he leaves Barton Peveril  and is travelling to Tanzania with Gap Medics to spend three weeks as a hospital volunteer.

With his valuable work experience complete, Matt will head for Africa’s highest peak to realise a long-held personal dream.

“Climbing Kilimanjaro is on my bucket list so I really want to do it while I’m out there,” says the former Hounsdown pupil who begins his ascent on 13 July.

“I am considering becoming an army doctor and Help for Heroes is just such an awesome charity.

“I’ve always been really patriotic and this is one way of doing my bit to support our troops.”
