A four-strong team of Maths A level students has won through to the final of the Senior Team Maths Challenge, defeating 12 other colleges and schools along the way. They beat Winchester College in the last round of the regional event, thanks to their skill on timed puzzles and other maths challenges.
The team consists of year 12s Bradley Shaw (formerly Toynbee School) and Patrick Winter (formerly Thornden School) and year 13s Lauren Mackenzie (formerly Cantell School) and Thomas Koeck (formerly Wyvern College). Bradley and Patrick will also take part in the British Maths Olympiad for individual mathematicians in December 2017.
Mandy Kennedy, Subject Leader Further Maths, says: “Mathematics is thriving at Barton Peveril. We are very proud of our talented Senior Team students, all their hard work and enthusiasm paid off on the day and we wish them all the best in the Final.”
In the Senior Maths Challenge for individuals, 94 Barton students took part, 11 won gold medals, 16 silver and 41 bronze.
The Senior Maths Challenges are organised by the UK Mathematics Trust and Further Maths Support Programme. The final of the team event will be held at the Royal Horticultural Halls on Tuesday 6 February 2018.
