Barton Peveril Students Excel in UKMT Maths Challenge

Over 200 Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students sat this year’s United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) Senior Maths Challenge, a record number for the College.
Of those who sat the Challenge, 18 achieved a Gold Certificate, 44 achieved a Silver Certificate, and 59 achieved a Bronze Certificate.
Of those who achieved a Gold Certificate, three students’ results were amongst the best in the country and therefore qualified for the British Mathematical Olympiad: Shaun Walker, formerly of Swanmore College; Ashraf Alam, formerly of Cantell School; and Jacob Clements, formerly of The Westgate School.
“Delighted”
Barton Peveril’s Director of Mathematics and Computer Science, Kyle Evans, commented on the success:
‘The Barton Peveril Mathematics and Computer Science Department is delighted that over 200 students signed up for the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. We had a large number of Gold Awards – including many first year students – and three students qualified for the British Maths Olympiad: Shaun Walker, Ashraf Alam and Jacob Clements. In the past we have had students reach the upper stages of the Olympiad and even qualify for the UK Team that enters the International Maths Olympiad; we have every hope that these three may be the next in line.’
