The first students to take part in Barton Peveril’s new Student Watch scheme have been presented with Police Support Volunteer certificates by Hampshire Constabulary.
Student Watch is a volunteering opportunity available to all Barton Peveril students. Many of those involved in the programme to date are interested in public service careers, but the experience gained is a valuable addition to any university or job application. Students who take part in the programme are also eligible to request references based on their contribution.
The Student Watch scheme harnesses the power of volunteer support to increase awareness of police-led initiatives in the field of crime prevention and the safety of both people and their property.
Activities carried out by the 15-strong Barton Peveril group included a cycle coding session, a firearms and knife education event, phone logging awareness and monitoring vehicle speeds in the vicinity of the College.
Laura Fisher, Extended Policy Family Co-ordinator for Hampshire Constabulary said: “It’s been fantastic working with the students and seeing how they have grown and developed in confidence.”
“I would like to thank them for all their hard work which is of real value to them and to Hampshire Constabulary.”
