BP Robotics Team Impress at Bournemouth University

On Thursday 7th November, the Barton Peveril Robotics Team travelled to Bournemouth University to take part in a FIRST UK Scrimmage event, gaining valuable industry insights and showcasing exciting progress on this year’s robot.

The day began with a series of engaging talks from university staff and engineering professionals. Students heard from leading organisations including Babcock, Openreach, Curtiss-Wright and Kier, each offering a glimpse into the wide-ranging opportunities within engineering and technology. Bournemouth University’s interactive session, “How to Become an Archaeologist!”, proved particularly popular, highlighting how modern robotics is increasingly contributing to archaeological discovery and research.

During the afternoon, the team spent time talking to people from schools across the South West. Our students then had the chance to test designs, and trial robots inside an official match arena. Barton Peveril’s team achieved a standout moment by becoming the first group at the event to successfully demonstrate autonomous movement. They also tested the robot’s ability to launch game elements, earning commendation from the FIRST UK representative attending the event.

The scrimmage offered a valuable opportunity not only to develop the teams’ robot, but also to exchange ideas and build connections with other teams in the region.
