Christmas Magic Fills Romsey Abbey

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College’s annual Christmas Choral Concert, held on Thursday 5th December 2024 at Romsey Abbey, was a resounding success. The concert, titled “Wassail!,” featured a performance of Alexander L’Estrange’s acclaimed work of the same name and brought together a diverse array of talented musicians from Hampshire and Colorado.

The performance featured the combined choirs of Barton Peveril, Wyvern College, Wildern School, Hampshire County Training Choir, and the Kinard Chor Angélique Treble Choir from Colorado, USA. They were accompanied by the Barton Peveril Rose Singers and the Call Me Al Quintet. The concert also included the Barton Peveril Sinfonia, Chamber Orchestra, and Brass Ensemble performances.

Bryan Postlethwaite, Director of Performing Arts at Barton Peveril, said:

It was a joy to see so many talented young musicians come together for this wonderful concert. The collaboration with Alexander L’Estrange, Scott Wheeler, and the Kinard Chor Angélique singers was truly special, and it was fantastic to involve two of our feeder schools, Wyvern and Wildern, alongside our own students, the Hampshire County Training Choir, and of course, our own wonderful Rose Singers. This performance was a testament to the power of music to bring people together and create something truly magical.

Highlights of the evening included:

  • The beautiful voices of the combined choirs, showcasing the talent of young singers from Hampshire and Colorado.
  • A captivating rendition of L’Estrange’s “Wassail!,” conducted by the composer himself.
  • Stunning performances by the Barton Peveril Sinfonia, Chamber Orchestra, and Brass Ensemble.
