Diving into Success!

Olly Wignall has been selected for the England Junior Development Squad for diving. This is a remarkable achievement, with only 27 athletes nationwide securing a place on the squad following an assessment in September.

The second year student will be put on a 12-month development programme, starting in January 2025 and will feature in training camps focused on enhancing both diving technique and competitive readiness. Beyond technical skills, the programme provides a holistic educational experience. Athletes will learn about nutrition for peak performance, effective goal setting, and lifestyle management to balance training and personal life. They will also develop crucial skills in independence, communication, and competition planning.

The Regents Park Community College alumni currently studies Computer Science, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. When asked about his success, Olly said:

I’m really excited to be a part of the programme, and I’m looking forward to using the resources and experiences to further improve my competition performances.

The Junior Development Squad serves as a pathway to international competitions, including the 8 Nations Youth Diving Meet, European Junior Championships, and World Junior Championships. Oliver will be competing for a spot on these teams, representing England on the global stage.
