Insight Into Careers at the Office for National Statistics

Business and Mathematics students from Barton Peveril College took part in an engaging work experience day at the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in Titchfield in early October.

Ten students visited the ONS to explore careers in data, business, and analysis. Throughout the day, they took part in a range of hands-on activities, completing three practical tasks designed by different teams within the organisation. Alongside these interactive sessions, students also attended career talks delivered by ONS staff, who shared insights into their professional journeys and explained the various career pathways available within the organisation.

Reflecting on the visit, Hannah West, our Careers Manager at Barton Peveril said, “Our students gained valuable and practical experience and a real insight into a professional workplace during their trip to the ONS, benefiting greatly from direct engagement with staff across the organisation.”

The trip provided students with an excellent opportunity to apply their current learning into a real-world context, expanding their understanding of how business and mathematical skills are used across government and industry. This will enhance their CV and personal statements as they move into higher education and employment.

Barton Peveril would like to thank Chris Smith and the team at the Office for National Statistics for welcoming our students and providing such an inspiring and informative experience.
