Student Stories

Lights, Camera, Italy

Young Film Academy (YFA), the UK’s leading provider of filmmaking courses and programmes for young people, is thrilled to announce that two Barton Peveril students have been selected. The Performing Arts students, Oli Flinn and Scott Nicholson, were chosen from 15,000 YFA participants nationwide to star in a short film shooting in Italy in February 2025.

These aspiring actors will join a select group of 24 students across the UK for this exciting opportunity. The not-for-profit film will provide a unique learning experience with on-set mentoring from specialist teachers. YFA is a hub partner in the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Academy Network and is renowned for its high-quality educational film projects. The organisation works with leading UK arts institutions and provides filmmaking opportunities for young people aged 6-19, from large-scale projects to small, fun filmmaking parties.

Scotty Nicholson, formerly of The Hamble School, said:

If you know me, you know I love acting. So being selected for a film project of this capacity only fills me with excitement. I’m looking forward to shooting with like minded young filmmakers who are pushing for a career in this tricky industry.

Former student of Romsey School, Oli Flinn, added:

“I am honoured for this amazing opportunity to pursue my dream of a career in the film industry. I am excited not only for the fantastic views in Sicily but also for the chance to watch myself on screen.”

The film, which will be entered into international film festivals later in 2025, promises to be a valuable stepping stone for these aspiring actors and filmmakers.
