Nyasha Reflects On His Journey From Secondary School To College

With his mind set on the future, Nyasha is eager to study CGI and VFX at Solent University, where he aspires to become a VFX artist for the film and the video game industry.

Nyasha reflected on his transition from school to College with us: “During the early days of college, I was worried about the subjects I had chosen, regarding possible career paths. However, Barton Peveril really helped me to explore incredible opportunities that I had never thought of before”. Nyasha has utilised the Careers support that Barton Peveril offers, where he has been able to discover the career path that he wants to pursue.

Nyasha Gutura, a former Crestwood Shakespeare School student, also shared some projects that he is currently working on in his subjects. He is currently studying Information Technology and Media – Creative Digital Technologies. “At the moment I am working on producing an ident for the E4 Channel as part of my coursework. I am also making animations for my portfolio in my spare time, as well as some just for fun that I can upload onto youtube”

Nyasha also takes part in the Radio Broadcasting Q-Xtra. He enjoys “working on the technical side and recording shows” as well as “the teamwork aspect where we create our own radio scripts”. This creative Q-Xtra has been a great addition to Nyasha’s skillset.

Having a balance between studies and enjoying your personal life is really important during your time at College. Nyasha told us: “Usually when I am not at college, especially during the long summer holidays, I visit interesting places such as the Winchester’s Military Museums or Solent Sky”

During our students’ time at Barton, we really encourage them to take part in Work Experience Placements and activities that can contribute to their CV. This could be volunteer work, attending online courses or aspirational talks from external visitors. Nyasha has furthered his knowledge of VFX by attending online, virtual talks. These talks are hosted by a range of different companies including Industrial Light Magic, Aardman Animations and DNEG. They have been really beneficial to his learning and decision making when it comes to thinking about his next steps.

“If I could say one thing to a new student I would tell them that Barton Peveril offers exquisite tools for a well-deserved future career, so my piece of advice is to ensure that you make the most of this support”

Nyasha’s hard work and dedication to his future has been so apparent during his studies here at Barton Peveril. We wish him all the best in his final year at Barton Peveril and future endeavors!
