Thornden School

What subjects do you study?

Photography, Graphics, Economics and Psychology

What are your plans for when you leave Barton Peveril?

“After finishing in the summer I will be back for a third year on the Art Foundation course as this Level 4 course will allow me to expand my portfolio to include a wider range of artistic techniques than I can’t gain in a multi subject timetable. My tutor told me about the importance of this course and showed me the sort of art that can be created while completing it and since I’ve been set on doing it. This will then let me take my next steps on to a Graphic Design related university course.”

What influenced your decision to come to Barton Peveril?

“I chose Barton Peveril because of the facilities, having an extremely well equipped art department has allowed me to push the boundaries of what I thought I could create. The teachers’ passion for their subjects on the Taster Day also let me know that I was in the right place for the subjects that I wanted to undertake.”

What do you think you have gained from your studies?

“Doing such a mix of subjects has really stretched me, at some points it has been quite intense but the range has allowed me to grow much more as person. In economics I have been able to keep my mind open to current affairs what’s happening in our economy, why it’s happening and what I can do about it. Psychology has really grabbed my attention because it has always been something I’ve wanted to learn about and it is just as interesting (and confusing) as I thought. And graphics and photography have allowed me to express myself creatively through my projects inspired by personal interests, this makes my work feel a lot more special and really made me want to complete each project.”
