Students Secure Oxbridge Offers

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College is celebrating the outstanding achievement of 22 students who have received offers to study at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

Principal Rob Temple said:

Securing a place at Oxford or Cambridge is a remarkable achievement, and I extend my warmest congratulations to our students who have reached this milestone. Their success is a testament to their talent, dedication, and the exceptional support they receive from our staff and mentors.

Aspire Coordinator, Clare Powell says:

It’s wonderful to see students commit to their students, dedicate and prepare for these competitive applications and it pays off in receiving an offer.

The Oxbridge Offer Holders share their successes:

Tilly Phillips, Former Wildern Student. Tilly holds an offer to study Arabic at the University of Oxford.

I felt completely over the moon when I got my email. The College was supportive at every step of the process. Specifically, the Aspire trip to Oxford in Year 1 helped me see myself at a University like Oxford for the first time and gave me the motivation to apply. I am really excited about starting University, especially my year abroad, which will take me to Jordan to improve my language skills but I am most looking forward to having a nap after my A-levels are finished.

Former Hamble student, Daniel Burnett holds an offer to study Engineering at the University of Oxford.

I worked very hard for it, but it’s so competitive, and I had no idea if I would get an offer. The staff have been exceptionally helpful and supportive throughout the application process. From help with personal statements to interview practice, someone was always willing to help. It’s an exciting next step in my life. After that, I’m keeping my options open for now. I haven’t entirely decided what my future will be.

Former Crestwood School students Abby Wood and Sophie McLeish, have offer holders with the University of Oxford. Abby wishes to study Biochemistry, while Sophie pursues Material Science.

Abby says:

Both the Careers team and my teachers gave me fantastic support with everything from my personal statement to interview practice. I also loved the lectures put on by the Aspire programme, as one led to me getting amazing work experience. After college, I’m really looking forward to studying biochemistry, which I haven’t been able to fully do yet as you can’t study it at A Level. After this I’d love to do a PhD and go into research.

Florian Gunderson, a former student of the Romsey School, has received an offer to study  Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. Florian reflects:

Barton has been very supportive in so many ways for not only University applications but just my education in general.

Tom Roy, alumni of Hamble school also reflects:

I had a mixture of shock and relief, and it was satisfying to know that all the hard work had paid off. I’m very grateful for all the help from the careers team with my application, especially when writing my personal statement. They provided a lot of guidance and feedback on my drafts which helped massively. The mock interview I had was also extremely useful as it helped with my confidence going into the actual ones and made them seem a bit less daunting.

Tom has been offered to study Physics at the University of Oxford.

Katie Manners has received an offer to study Human Sciences at the University of Oxford. The Bitterne Park alumna says:

I was so excited to receive the offer… I am also even more determined than before to do well in my exams and not take such a fantastic opportunity for granted. I can’t express how helpful the college has been in this journey. My mentor, Sue was incredibly helpful and supportive, and by gaining experience discussing academic topics, I felt much more comfortable in my Oxford interview than I would have otherwise. I am hoping to continue studying by doing a Masters after finishing my degree, and possibly even a PhD.

Katherine Axelsen has been offered to study Music at the University of Oxford. The Cams Hill Alumna also says:

I was absolutely thrilled to receive an offer to read music at Oxford as it’s a dream I’ve had since I was very young, but never something I expected to come true, and I certainly never anticipated getting an offer from my first choice college, Christ Church College! I am looking forward to this incredible opportunity and if I’m honest, the news still hasn’t fully sunk in!Following university I am hoping to train professionally in classical singing, with the long term ambition to perform in operas and the theatre.
