Barton Peveril College hosted a festive concert last week at Romsey Abbey. The event showcased the talent of over 200 performers in a collaborative performance, centred around Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria.
The performance featured a choir and orchestra, uniting students and singers from King School Winchester, Westgate School Winchester, Wyvern College, the Hampshire County Youth Choir, and Barton Peveril’s Roar Singers (the college’s community choir).

The performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria included stand-out contributions from Barton Peveril’s talented musicians, with the Barton Peveril String Orchestra providing the accompaniment. The concert also featured vocal soloists from Barton Peveril students. Beyond the Gloria, the audience was treated to a reworking of Once in Royal David’s City, which featured a vocal soloist and soprano saxophonist, backed by a semi-chorus, creating a truly memorable moment.

“This was a wonderful concert, with an ambitious work performed beautifully by the massed choir and accompanied by our student orchestra,” said Rob Temple, Principal at Barton Peveril College. “Well done to everyone involved in making this such an unforgettable evening and a real highlight of our college calendar.“
The programme also featured works that celebrated both emerging and established musical talent. A striking fanfare composed by a former Barton Peveril student (currently studying Composition at the Royal College of Music in London), opened the proceedings. Additionally, the 60-strong Barton Peveril Chamber Choir delivered performances of two carols written by composer Bob Chilcott.
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College extends its congratulations to all performers, staff, and collaborating groups.
